Short answer

First send one synthetic message with a unique ID. Confirm the website success response, then search for that same ID in the test inbox. If it is missing, inspect WordPress and SMTP configuration without submitting the form again.

    Prepare a harmless test

    Use an obvious synthetic name, a reserved .test email address and a run ID that cannot be mistaken for a customer.

    Watch the browser result

    Record whether the form submitted, showed a validation error, displayed success or redirected to a confirmation page.

    Check the dedicated inbox

    Match the unique run ID rather than guessing from the sender or subject. This proves arrival only at that test inbox.

    Write down the failed stage

    Page, form, submission and email are separate stages. The failed stage tells you where to investigate next.

Common causes

What can break without taking the website offline.

Wrong recipient setting

The Contact Form 7 mail tab may point to an old, misspelled or unintended recipient address.

Sender-domain mismatch

A sender address that does not match the website domain can be rejected or handled differently by the mail path.

SMTP connection failure

Credentials, ports, encryption settings or provider limits can change independently of the visible form.

Inbox filtering

Arrival at a monitoring inbox does not prove placement in another person’s inbox. Spam and recipient rules remain separate.
